Secret and Seek (Part 1) is the thirteenth chapter of the Shuuen no Shiori Manga.

Summary[]

During an Occult Club meeting, A-ya tells the others of an urban legend called "the person who committed suicide while laughing", in which a photographer accidentally captured the last moments of a woman who threw herself off a cliff while smiling directly at the camera. He then tells a similar story called "the girl by the window", in which a girl who stood by the window while smiling at a passersby below is revealed to be a hanging corpse.

D-ne then reflects how despite liking A-ya's stories, she never really had an interest in the occult, and was only there because she wanted to spend time with B-ko.

As C-ta prepares to head home, B-ko criticises the Motivational Treenoki charm on his bag, which reminds A-ya of how dolls are used to play One-Man Hide and Seek. C-ta recalls a stuffed toy from his and A-ya's childhood, but dismisses it, asking A-ya not to use that doll if he were to ever play One-Man Hide and Seek.

This prompts D-ne to recall a doll she had in her childhood named Ririka, though she doesn't remember why she stopped playing with her. That evening, D-ne tries to find her at home to no avail.

Sometime later, the club performs "Kokkuri-san", with questions slightly different to the ones in the previous iteration of the game. They then receive the instructions to the Demise Game, which they attempt to dismiss as a bad joke and head home.

The next day, the club meets again to discuss what happened. B-ko gets scared, which D-ne finds adorable and decides to take a picture of her, though at that moment a hanged corpse of a girl appears right outside the window.

D-ne then reflects on how the information given by the police had made it confusing as to how the incident occurred - the roof of the old school building wasn't openly accessible, the rope was tied to a 3 meter pole on the roof, which would be very difficult to do. The rooftop was also clearly visible from the fourth floor of the new school building, but nobody from the brass band club had seen anyone on the roof, despite practicing within clear view of it.

As she concludes that it was an impossible suicide, the police are done with the investigation, and the club is sent home.
